Although Haute couture originated in France, the idea was developed by an Englishman who was previously well known but is now mostly forgotten by the general public. Charles Frederick Worth who was born in 1825, started his education in London before relocating to Paris in 1845 and worked as a clothing salesman for Gagelin.

What is Haute couture?

Without Haute couture, the history of costume and fashion would not be the same.

High fashion is referred to Haute couture in French. Haute defines elegant or high fashion, and couture refers to dress making, sewing, or needlework.

The introduction of Diors new look in 1947 signalled the start of a significant decade in the history of fashion and haute coutures final big leap.

The "New look"

On February 12th, 1947, opened his couture house and became and instant success. This look was one of my favourite! the designs had big lengthy skirts over full, sloping shoulders, a full bust and a cinched in waist. The "bar" jacket from spring/summer in 1947 was also obviously influenced by late 19th-century fashion and body shapers. The bar suit was regarded as the most recognisable design. this design bought out the feminine shape to express a woman's femininity with the bar jacket. I believe, Christian Diors hourglass shaped range gave women the tools they needed to express their seductive abilities.
