Working in retail is not just pushing and pulling; rather, it is rewarding work for me in some ways. After all, in only an 8-hour workday, I have to deal with customers while choosing sizes at the same time, looking for earrings to go along with the outfit I created.
Challenges of the Job:
1. Styling Customers:
Customer service has been more challenging than I think daily as I assist customers in finding good clothing for several occasions.
I found myself in the midst of all that comes with creativity: working on casual styles and formal wear always had me on my toes.
2. Checking Sizing:
For a brand whose motto is “Perfect fit, perfect clothes,” it is a top priority to make sure that customers choose pieces that suit them well and they are satisfied.
For every item I was importing from various brands, there were different charts corresponding to the sizing. Therefore I had to be very specific and careful with measurements as well as a thorough understanding of different sizing charts.
3. Finding the Right Shoes:
Choosing shoes for a client that fit both the outfit as well as the client's sense of style and comfort was one of the most creative, demanding, and detailed tasks on the job.
The Rewards:
1. Sense of Accomplishment:
Despite any difficulties of the job, the bliss of helping an individual to feel comfortable when dressed in the right attire is something unparalleled.
It was a trip full of contradictory feelings: excitement and stress, happiness and sadness. Surprisingly, I can say with certainty that I wouldn't swap it for anything.
2. Development of Skills:
Wholesaling kept the business operational and taught me the art of being a fashion photographer. It was a turning point in many ways for me; it made me appreciate the notions of patience, preciseness, and resourcefulness.
3. Interpersonal Growth:
Interacting with different customers every day brought me to a very personal point, giving birth to a keen interpersonal sense and probably empathy.
It was going to be an expedition that would bring up my life even more than what I have now.
Conclusion:
The part-time position did take time and energy out of me quite often, but finishing the work knowing that I could help customers feel good was indeed unforgettable.
Parking myself at a check-out counter or strategically placing merchandise in the shining aisles have not only polished my trade but have also exhibited themselves in the art of living I never thought of having.
